A Collaborative Film about Human Connection and Technology
A covideo by all of us
A Covideo About COVID-19
Who do you call when your world falls apart?
How to reach out and what to say?
In early 2020 millions of people are finding old connections remade, sharing intense experiences with strangers across the world and disconnection from things that no longer seem important.
Collectively, the world is going through a grieving process. Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance – how are those playing out for you and the people you love?
CoronaVideo is a collaborative ‘covideo’ made in the moment of covid-19. Capturing the personal stories of people thrust together online around the world, it reveals who we really are and what matters to us most.
The loss of normalcy, the fear of economic toll; the loss of connection. This is hitting us and we’re grieving collectively.

We, The Co-Creators
The CoronaVideo project is directed by Tan Siok Siok, an entrepreneur and filmmaker based in Singapore.
Between 2019-2012, Siok made Twittamentary, a groundbreaking project about the emergence of Twitter. She collaborated with the people on Twitter across the world to crowdsource the ideas, the footage and the team for the film.
On March 31 2020, Siok shared her idea of a covideo about COVID-19 with her friend, Hugh Mason. Hugh had just tested positive for the coronavirus and was in isolation at the hospital in Singapore.
Her initial conversations with Hugh shaped the themes and ideas of the project. Siok’s interview with Hugh via Zoom, the video conferencing platform, was the first interview she completed for the film.
Hugh has also become the first co-creator and contributor of this project and we invite you to join us for this journey.
In this time of crisis, we face two particularly important choices. The first is between totalitarian surveillance and citizen empowerment. The second is between nationalist isolation and global solidarity.

Share Your Story
Record a video message to your future self, looking back on the coronavirus pandemic and sharing the insights you have gained.
What have you learned about who you really are and what matters to you most?
Record Your Video
Record your video in the landscape mode, not portrait mode, using your phone, tablet or whatever you have at hand
Choose a quiet, well lit place so we can see and hear you well. Do not insert any background music in your video.
Imagine you are sending a message to your future self.
- Introduce yourself. Who you are and what you do normally.
- What is the struggle or loss that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused you?
- What are you doing to overcome the challenge? What are the good things you have experienced (if any) ?
- What do you want to tell your future self never to forget about this COVID19 moment?
- Bonus points : show off your special talent on camera : sing a song, dance a dance, perform a magic trick.
Or recite your favourite poem while standing on your hands, draw an ugly sketch that captures exactly how you feel in this moment.
You know we can go on and on but we won’t! 🙂
